Hawaiian Dick and the Future

So, HAWAIIAN DICK #5 is all finished up and should be in shops within a few weeks. HAWAIIAN DICK #6, which features art by guest artist Jason Armstrong, should follow in a fairly timely fashion.

We have yet to solicit HAWAIIAN DICK #7, but Jason is also working on that one, which features the death of a cast member (oooh!), and the aftermath.

Beyond that...I'm up in the air. I wonder how people would respond to a HAWAIIAN DICK graphic novel in leiu of more single issues. Or HAWAIIAN DICK digital shorts, which would then be collected into a fourth trade...

You should do both a GN and the Shorts.

Test the waters.

What about the "graphic novella" format. Like a 64 page short story, released every 3 to 4 months or so. I like that model.

I love Hawaiian Dick and always wait for it in GN or trade format because of the delays. I know the material is pretty much timeless and will make for a nice addition in trade a GN format over the logn haul

I don't see the "novella" format working too well for a number of reasons. I think doing a 100+ page OGN would be good, though. Or maybe even a 64 page lead story, followed by backups that tie together.

I would prefer a GN over the long waits between single issues. Makes me lose interest in the story and I have to read it all in one sitting anyway when it is complete.

Rebirth of the comic book crime novel.

I think a GN is a good idea, Clay.

Though it's hard to get committments from artists for such a long haul. It'd probably play and position itself in the marketplace. It's new release wouldn't just be comic shops...it'd include bookstores too I imagine.

That being said, digital shorts from different artists would help round out the world and feed the public marketing machine.

Whichever direction you go I think you should do a lot.

For whatever reason I just love single issues.

Personally, I enjoy the issues and would love to see them continue...

I favor GNs because they're easier to keep handy and reread. Once I read the periodical form, I file it, and the boxes pile up. If I suddenly get an itch to reread it, I have to go through a labor-intensive process of liberating it. A GN, instead, slips off the shelf with ease and great frequency.

That cover is gorgeous.
